Yes, Steven Jarvis is in a cult. That isn’t me saying it, that’s the man StewAnon has held up as their expert on cults, Steve Hassan, the self-styled “@CultExpert” on Twitter.
Fuck, he’s dull. The podcast he is talking about isn’t much better, but if you’re interested, you can find it here. One thing that struck me from this little blurb is the idea that he talks about called “Lying for the Lord”, which is a whole fucking thing with the LDS that I don’t even want to start on, but if that struck you as interesting, look for Paul H. Dunn’s story to get you started.
Moving away from the setup, we can look into another cult that Steven Jarvis is participating in, StewAnon. He makes it very easy to see that it has become a cult because of the way he uses language.
What does Steven Jarvis mean by “inauthentic account”? Steven uses the term to distinguish between people who are StewAnon and who are in opposition to StewAnon. If you do not believe the conclusions that Jim Stewartson has come to, you must be acting inauthentically. No one that looks at the information authentically could ignore or disagree with Leader Jim about his interpretations. This is one of the hallmarks of cult activity. The leader cannot be questioned.
I don’t see anything out of the ordinary about the above tweets. I see it as an ex-member of Jim’s influence who has walked away and is talking to someone who is still under Jim’s influence. This is a conversation that happens in and around many cults, with members attacking the former members and calling them out on “psychological manipulation“, which in this instance, seems to be manifesting as attempting a civil conversation.
This passage speaks to Steven Jarvis’s ignorance on the subjects of in-groups and out-groups. “The Pinks” as Jarvis refers to them, aren’t even a group. It’s a bunch of friends that do shit to fuck with Steven Jarvis because he’s a piece of shit. They aren’t an ingroup, and most of them have said that the only reason they know each other is because Jim Stewartson attacked them for speaking out against him. That’s an outgroup. The ingroup is the group with a dogmatic set of beliefs that need to be shielded from anyone in the outgroup.
This is Steven Jarvis’s entire purpose in StewAnon. He is attempting to control the conversation within the outgroup. He wants to direct the outgroup’s attention so that the ingroup is left alone to be manipulated into giving Leader Jim their eyes and money. Does Jarvis do this for compensation? No, I don’t think so. I think he does it for teh same reason he has latched on to BNN and Rebekah Jones. He wants clout. He wants his name to be recognized enough for someone to notice him and give him a book deal. He has claimed to be writing a book about this multiple times now, so it will be interesting to read the chapters on BNN losing their lolsuit against Twitter, Rebekah Jones’s continued legal troubles, and Jim Stewartson continuing to fuck around and find out.
Hey Questioning hyd? Awesome bullshit detection as usual, SJ continues to "think mirror" in service of the Divine High Stew.
PS : Potential typo ? - " . . . If you do not believe the conclusions that Jim Stewartson has come to, you must be acting [in]*authentically," .
